Woman Interrupted

I am constantly interrupting myself.

I sign in to the class wiki and I remember that I want to set up the OneNote program so that I can be more responsive in class for the current event prompt. I click over there. In OneNote, I see a snippet of a screen shot I took about Microsoft coming up with a way for users to create their own ads. I click over to Facebook to remind myself what their ads look like. (Now, of course, I’m on Facebook–that’s a good half-hour time suck.) I click over to WordPress (so cool-why-haven’t-I-done-this-before-now?) and start a blog entry. I remember that I want to say something about the Shirky book, so I power up my Kindle and look through my notes. I get frustrated with the Kindle’s categoizing of my notes and I hop back on my computer to google (did I really just use that as a verb?) some Kindle help. The CNET feed I have reminds me that I really want to understand what happened with Google in China and that, oh yeah, I really want to consolidate all my reading into Google Reader as taught on Weds. by Tom and Josh. I do that. I’m mindly happy with it. Maybe this will be the answer to organizing my stuff. I click back over to iGoogle and see that advertisements have invaded one of my gadgets. I make a mental note to tell one of my employees about “All For Good,” but to warn her about the ads. My Blackberry plings at me and I am happy to read a text from a friend. Gosh, I never turned on mobile Twitter. I click over there and get the codes and spend a few minutes getting plinged by Twitter’s computer signing me up for mobile. Nice. WordPress beckons, so I click over, but then remember I wanted to turn down my monitor’s brightness to save laptop battery. I do that, but first I had to change the color scheme because I was never happy with the old one. I brush by my email on the way back and decide I’d better check it. Nothing too urgent. I click back over to . . .

Wait . . . what was I doing again?

Technology is awesome.

Love this. I totally feel you on the time suck/procrastination/tech exploration. Though it sounds like you’re productive in your procrastination and you covered a lot of ground.
